Grand Rapids strives to be a welcoming destination for travelers of all abilities. Since being named a top 10 city for people with disabilities (WalletHub, 2017 & 2019), we’ve worked hard to ensure that visitors feel just as safe, respected and included as our residents do.
In 2025, we achieved Destination Verified status on Wheel the World, an online platform dedicated to enhancing global travel accessibility. This certification required dozens of local hotels, restaurants, attractions, transportation providers and activity organizers to undergo third-party audits analyzing each point of accessibility and identifying actionable insights for improvement. The end result is that travelers can now view detailed and guaranteed accessibility information for 60 (and counting) local businesses on Wheel the World’s Accessible Grand Rapids page.
