The Austrian city of Salzburg, famous in particular for being the birthplace of the gifted 18th century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, is located on the border of Germany, with spectacular views of the Eastern Alps. The real von Trapp family lived in Salzburg until they fled to the United States following the Nazi takeover.The city of Salzburg is divided by the Salzach River, with medieval and baroque buildings in Altstad (old city) on the left bank, and the more modern Neustadt (New City) on the right side.
